Thatch Roofs for Breezier Tiki Bars
Although the fad on Tiki huts peaked during the
1970s, it is now making a comeback and more and
more online shops are providing consumers with a
growing number of choices on Tiki equipment and
accessories, including Tiki bar thatch.
A thatch basically refers to dead turf, or, if
taken in the context of roofing materials, is
composed of reeds, palm fronds, stalks and
foliage woven together to form roofing. Although
a Tiki bar thatch is difficult to construct and
costs a lot to make, it is still the material of
choice because of its amazing cooling effect. A
Tiki bar thatch roof considerably provides a
cooling effect during warm weather because of
its ability to absorb harsh sunrays, unlike
canvas roofs that seem to collect heat and raise
the humidity within the structure.
Tiki bar systems are easily ordered online and
just as quickly shipped to your home. Tiki huts
are best installed on patios, decks and the
poolside. Large Tiki styles can be effective spa
covers, seating areas or bars. Some
do-it-yourself Tiki bar kits even come with
electrical outlets for small appliances and
fixtures such as ceiling fans, bar sinks and
lights.
Get your own Tiki bar
To give your patio or poolside an authentic
Polynesian ambiance, you can save money by
building your own Tiki hut or bar instead of
ordering a prefabricated kit. Kevin Dunn's
e-book on how to build your own Tiki bar gives
invaluable tips, advice and plans on
constructing a personalized Tiki bar. This
e-book has useful illustrations, captioned
photos, step-by-step instructions and
information on where to source your materials,
such as thatch and bamboo poles. You can build
an open-sided Tiki bar made of palapa, with a
roof made of dried palm leaves. A typical bar or
topical resort may be one-sided and generously
thatched with palm leaves.
Attractive Tiki accessories
You can make use of accessories, such as Tiki
signs that point to the direction of your
Pacific island oasis. There are also excellently
crafted totem poles and masks you can use to
create an authentic South Pacific mood. Latilla
supports and the Tiki bar's center pole, made
from Southwestern pine, can be purchased
locally. A type of palm covering for the top of
the Tiki hut, called a Rain Cape, provides an
authentic Tiki look and is masterfully hand
woven in Mexico.
